Academic Freedom Against Anticipatory Obedience
Whatever your political persuasion, it is hard to see the current administration’s actions as anything but a frontal assault on the post-war architecture of American higher education, from executive orders attacking free speech and academic freedom under the cover of an anti-DEI crusade to attempts to defund the NIH, NSF, and other granting bodies. Since 2023, AAUP Bucknell has been organizing to meet just such a moment so that we can defend the mission of higher education by defending the institutional conditions that make our work possible.
Federal policy is targeting free speech which is the bedrock of higher education. University administrations across the country are starting to self-censor. AAUP defends academic freedom by advocating for the institutional, legal, and material conditions that make it possible. AAUP Bucknell is advocating against anticipatory obedience. Join us!
